UNIT 1: WRITING FOR APPLICATION
We are thrilled to be revamping the "Writing for Application" unit and bringing it into the 21st century. Rather than simply compiling a number of word documents into a dusty, old portfolio, students will build professional websites! These sites will include all of the previous writing pieces of this unit--applications, resumes and cover letters--in addition to the skills and design elements required to build a polished website. Regardless of a student's path after graduation, whether you're headed to college, the military or the work force, this unit will provide him/her with a set of invaluable skills any university or employer will be looking for in its applicants. In this process, we will "learn, unlearn and relearn." It's a good thing! |
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:

AUDIENCE
An audience is the person or persons for whom a writer writes. A writer uses a particular style of language, tone, and content according to what he knows about his audience. AUTHOR'S PURPOSE An author's purpose is the reason an author decides to write about a specific topic. Then, once a topic is selected, the author must decide whether his purpose for writing is to inform, persuade, entertain, and/or explain his ideas to the reader. CONVENTIONS A convention is a customary feature of a literary work, such as the inclusion of an explicit moral in a fable. Literary conventions are defining features of particular literary genres, such as novel, short story, ballad, sonnet, and play. Conventions can also refer to the grammatical correctness of a piece of writing. |
